Context At university we were challenged to participate in the contest
“Dwelling in Transition, Experiences from Lockdown” , a contest from the university ESAD Matosinhos where we were asked to created something about the pandemic and the most creative and well done would be chosen to be displayed at the public university exhibition. Our work was one of th e 20 chosen for the exhibition between 120+ projects.
Insight The pandemic was bad in multiple ways, public health, comfinement, etc... but it was also good for multiple reasons, people stared to learn more about themselves, we could have a bit of time for ourselves so we could do things that were left behind, etc... the problem is: Everyone talks about the bad stuff and that is tiring... everybody knows how bad it is and we keep getting overwhelmed with news, fake news, posts, opinions, etc...
Idea Create a video to focus on what nobody is talking, the good stuff, or at least, the not so bad. We created a persona and from start to finish we see her routine transformation from the start of the pandemic where she is devastated, she needs to be at home, dont have anything to do, can not go out with her friends and dont have an inch of motivation and we start seeing her transformation while she learns more about herself and starts creating routines and foccusing more on herself and then she gets a bit creative.
Execution We asked an actual actress from OPTO / SIC to perform Maria, our main character. We created the scrpit, the moodboard, storyboard, we recorded the movie, edited it and I did the sound edit. Also we created some posters with the photos we took at the scene and did the logo animation. Synopsis At the beginning of COVID-19, Maria, a hardworking 23-year-old girl, finds herself lost and unmotivated in her “new routine.” But with willpower and a good group of friends, she seeks to improve her situation by creating new routines, a better state of mind, and learning to make the most of the things the pandemic has brought us.
I CAN NOT is a short film produced as part of a university project and submitted to the contest “Dwelling in Transition, Experiences from Lockdown” at the School of Arts and Design.
